The Gordon revolving rifle is operated by pressing the action back towards the butt stock.
This cocks the hammer and sets various levers and springs (four of each). When the trigger
is pulled, the hammer fails, setting off the chamber, and releasing the springs and levers
which cock the hammer ready for another shot. It is not known whether recoil would be
sufficient to operate the stock-action. If not, the action would have to be pulled back
after each shot to cock the springs. Gordon anticipated the use of his action on other
types of action, including the Spencer and Henry.
